FAQ - Popular Questions We Receive

Making a decision to secure your business can seem overwhelming and daunting, especially after you’ve spent hours repairing damage, cleaning up tiny shards of glass, and dealing with insurance companies. We’re here to help! We’re here to make your security decisions as simple as possible. You can always call us at 778-255-2855.

What are security gates?

Security gates, also known as scissor gates or expanding gates, are an excellent solution to prevent break-ins. They provide both a solid physical and visual barrier. At night, they expand across your windows and doors, protecting the areas thieves love to target.

What are some of the benefits of scissor gates?

Our clients frequently tell us they sleep better at night because they’re not worried about getting that dreaded 3 am call from the alarm company. Their business and inventory are protected from theft. They don’t have to look at unsightly plywood for days or weeks while they’re waiting for their glass to be replaced. Yet during open hours, the store is open and inviting for customers.

Are security gates better than window film?

Yes, for two reasons. First, thieves can’t see the window film so they are likely to break into your business because they can’t see any physical security products. Secondly, window film can easily be breached. All it takes is a few strikes with a hammer or axe and the thief can crawl through the opening. Within a couple of minutes, your business has sustained thousands of dollars of damage and loss, and you have wasted your hard-earned money on an ineffective security barrier.

Are security gates better than roll-down shutters?

Yes, for a variety of reasons. First, roll shutters are significantly more costly than our security gates. Additionally, the City of Kelowna requires all roll shutters within a building to have an electric operation with a battery backup. The batteries alone cost around $5000. Businesses are also required to have building permits before installation. That also costs time and money. Roll shutters are also prone to graffiti, and a business owner could be fined if the graffiti is not removed promptly. Lastly, you have invested thousands of dollars in making your business look attractive and welcoming to your customers. Installing roll shutters gives your business the look of an industrial storage locker.

Since expanding gates are installed inside the store, no permits are required. They are easy to operate, and they fold neatly out of the way during the day. But your store has a strong physical and visual deterrent at night when thieves prowl around, looking for easy targets.

Will expanding gates make my storefront look unattractive?

Not at all! During the day, they collapse neatly out of the way and are barely visible to you and your customers.

I need to secure my business. How can I contact you for a quote?

You can call us at 778-255-2855 or fill in the contact form. We can usually provide a free, no-obligation consultation the same day. We will take measurements and offer suggestions on how you can add to your peace of mind with additional layers of security.

Are scissor gates expensive?

In our experience, installing security gates is often less expensive than the cost of a single break-in. Glass repair and lost or damaged inventory can cost thousands of dollars, not to mention the inconvenience and stress associated with a break-in. Security gates are an affordable, attractive and effective solution to preventing costly break-ins.

Do your gates have a warranty?

We are confident in the quality of our gates and are pleased to offer a 2-year warranty, normal wear and tear excepted.

How long does it take to get expanding gates installed?

Since we stock the most commonly sized gates, we can usually complete installation within 2-3 days of an order being placed. Our crew is fast, professional, and polite. We work hard to minimize any disruption to the operation of your business. And we clean up after ourselves!

Some applications require special order gates, which can take 7-10 days to arrive.

What areas do you service?

Our primary areas of operation are Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton and Kamloops. However, we can service other areas of the province and have a network of dealers and installers that spans across Canada.

Do you recommend installing scissor gates inside or outside my store?

The best way to protect your doors and windows is by installing the gates on the inside. Businesses typically have alarms and motion sensors as a first layer of protection. Once the glass is broken, criminals now have to penetrate a second layer of security while the alarm is blaring. Thieves look for easy targets. They prefer smash-and-grab opportunities where they can easily break into a business, steal a few items, and be gone within a minute. They stay away from businesses that take longer to break into and, therefore, increase the likelihood of them getting caught.

Will a criminal still break my window even if there’s a gate on the inside?

Probably not. Thieves like easy targets. Strong physical and visual barriers tend to cause thieves to go elsewhere, to businesses that don’t have any physical security products.

What kind of locks do you use?

Our brass locks are encased in a steel housing which prevents thieves from tampering with the lock. We also have an optional commercial cylinder that can be rekeyed to match your existing door locks. The operation of either lock mechanism is smooth and simple.
